About the series
The World Poker Tour launched in 2002 and did more than any other circuit to put poker on television. Its format, a televised final table with hole cards shown, is now standard everywhere.
The 2026 calendar is genuinely global, with confirmed festivals in Cambodia, Australia, California and Korea in the second half of the year alone.
The WPT World Championship is the tour's flagship and has been held at Wynn Las Vegas in December in recent years, though the 2026 dates had not been announced at the time of writing. Its buy-in and guarantee have made it one of the largest tournaments in poker outside the WSOP Main Event.
Bay 101 Shooting Star is the one to know about for its format rather than its size: designated players wear bounties, and knocking one out pays a cash prize on top of the tournament equity. It is among the oldest continuously running events on any tour.

Two things are worth checking that have nothing to do with the poker. Tournament rake is quoted separately in the buy-in, so a $1,000 + $100 event carries a 10% fee, and that fee is the largest single cost most tournament players face.
