About the series
The World Series of Poker has run since 1970 and remains the reference point for the whole game. A bracelet is the sport's most recognised prize and the Main Event champion is, by convention rather than any governing body, called the world champion.
The 2026 series ran 26 May to 15 July at Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas, across 100 bracelet events. Buy-ins spanned a few hundred dollars to six figures. Formats ran from no-limit hold'em to the mixed-game championships, which draw the smallest and strongest fields of the summer.
The structural change worth noting is the Main Event final table. Play ran 2 to 13 July to reach the final table, and the final table itself was staged 3 to 5 August after a three-week break. That format, borrowed from the November Nine years, exists to build a broadcast window rather than for any competitive reason, and it changes preparation considerably for the players involved.
For anyone planning a trip rather than a campaign, the useful thing to know is that the WSOP is not one tournament but a seven-week festival. Smaller bracelet events, daily deepstacks and the enormous cash game economy that grows around the series are all available without a $10,000 buy-in, and the room is fullest in the middle weeks rather than at either end.

Two things are worth checking that have nothing to do with the poker. Tournament rake is quoted separately in the buy-in, so a $1,000 + $100 event carries a 10% fee, and that fee is the largest single cost most tournament players face.
