One row per address on the register; where a building holds more than one licence, usually a casino and its own poker room, it appears once. The entry rule and the hours are what each operator's own site says, read on 12 October 2026 and again on 20 October. A casino licence can be kept, and moved, after the room behind it has shut, which is why the register and the street disagree. Any list built from the register alone, or from an old directory, will send you to these addresses.

Genting has said it will turn the Trocadero into a three-storey casino. It is not open and not yet on the register.

The biggest, and the one licensed under a different Act

Genting Casino Stratford, at Westfield, calls its floor the largest casino floor in the UK; it was reported at 65,000 square feet when it opened as Aspers in 2011. Every London casino is licensed under the Gambling Act 2005, but Stratford is the only one holding a new casino licence issued under it (Great Britain has eight, at seven sites, and Newham is the only London borough allowed to issue one); the other 29 London licences are converted ones, carried over from the Gaming Act 1968. Genting Casinos UK bought the Stratford casino on 8 April 2025 from the administrators of its parent, the Aspers Group, on the day they were appointed, and relaunched it as Genting Casino Stratford in June 2025.

The Hippodrome on Leicester Square is the largest building: a theatre opened in 1900 and a casino since 2012, 80,000 square feet over seven floors with three casinos inside.

For poker, Genting describes Stratford's as the biggest poker room in the country. The Hippodrome's PokerStars LIVE room, 17 tables on the third floor, is London's largest dedicated poker floor in its own words, and it runs noon to 6am on weekdays and around the clock at weekends.

Getting in, and staying late

• Walk straight in, no membership: the Hippodrome, the Empire, Horizons, every Grosvenor room, the Park Lane Club, the Sportsman, Metropolitan Mayfair, and Genting's Colony Club, Cromwell Road and Stratford rooms. Free, 18 and over. Carry photo ID: Grosvenor signs every visitor in with it, Genting Stratford asks everyone at the door for a passport, driving licence or citizen card (copies refused) or a membership card, the Empire asks everyone for ID or a Metropolitan Rewards card after 9pm and tells visitors to carry ID at any hour, and the rest ask anyone who could pass for under 25.
• Register at reception: Genting's Palm Beach and Chinatown. Free, a few minutes, photo ID.
• Members only: Les Ambassadeurs, by application, and Wynn Mayfair, whose gaming is for members and their guests.
• Open 24 hours: the Hippodrome (except on Christmas Day), the Empire, Grosvenor's Rialto, Victoria, Gloucester Road and Park Tower, and Genting Stratford. Grosvenor's Bayswater and St Giles rooms stay open but deal live tables only from noon to 6am, and Les Ambassadeurs games at any hour for its members. Most of the rest close between 5am and 7am and open again around midday.
• Dress: smart casual almost everywhere, and each operator's own rules are in the questions below. The longest lists are Genting's Colony Club (no ripped jeans, sportswear, hoodies, shorts or hats) and Les Ambassadeurs, which can refuse sportswear, football shirts and trainers.

Arriving at Les Ambassadeurs or Wynn Mayfair without a membership is a common way a London casino evening fails. The rest of Mayfair asks for photo ID if you could pass for under 25, and the Palm Beach asks you to register.

Where to play each game, and what it costs

The room changes; the arithmetic does not, and four figures decide more than the address.

• Roulette. Look at the wheel, not the name on the table: a single-zero wheel costs 2.70% on every bet and a double-zero wheel 5.26%, and the two look identical from three feet away. Count the zeros before you sit.
• Blackjack. Read the payout line first: 6:5 instead of 3:2 adds 1.35 percentage points, more than every other rule on the felt combined.
• Baccarat and punto banco, the Mayfair game: the banker bet costs 1.06% and the player bet 1.24%, and the tie costs 14.36% at 8:1.
• If the dealer offers insurance, decline: on a six-deck shoe it costs 6.80%, about thirteen times the game you are already playing.
• Poker runs at the Hippodrome (PokerStars LIVE), the Empire, the Victoria's Poker Room, Grosvenor's Barracuda and Bayswater rooms, and Genting Stratford. A tournament's fee is quoted beside the buy-in, and it is the largest cost most tournament players pay.

Practical notes

• Age 18, by law (Gambling Act 2005, section 47). Carry a passport or photo driving licence: Grosvenor's rooms and Genting Stratford ask every visitor, the Empire everyone after 9pm, and most other rooms anyone who could pass for under 25 (Challenge 25 or Think 25).
• Casino winnings are not taxed for players in the UK; the duty falls on the operator. See gambling law in the United Kingdom.
• Smoking is banned indoors; some rooms have smoking terraces, the Hippodrome's poker floor among them.
• Leicester Square and Piccadilly Circus put five casinos within a few minutes' walk: the Hippodrome, the Empire, the Rialto, Horizons and Genting Chinatown. Stratford station, beside Westfield, is on the Central, Jubilee and Elizabeth lines, the DLR and the Overground.
• Soho has one casino: Genting Casino Chinatown, whose name misleads, sits on the Soho side of Shaftesbury Avenue at the corner of Greek Street.

The Empire and the Sportsman take jeans and trainers if they are neat, and the Park Lane Club takes them without conditions. Horizons does not permit sportswear, football shirts or soiled clothing. The Hippodrome has no set code. Les Ambassadeurs can refuse sportswear, football shirts and trainers, and Wynn Mayfair refuses flip-flops and anything too revealing.

Which casinos are in Mayfair?

Six: Les Ambassadeurs and Wynn Mayfair, for members; Genting's Palm Beach, open to non-members, who may be asked to register at reception; and the Colony Club, Metropolitan Mayfair and the Park Lane Club in the London Hilton, which need no membership. The Clermont Club on Berkeley Square holds a licence but is closed.

Are casinos legal in London?

Yes. A London casino needs an operating licence from the Gambling Commission and a premises licence from its borough council, both under the Gambling Act 2005. Only Newham may issue a new casino licence in London, and Genting Casino Stratford holds it; every other London casino runs on a licence carried over from the Gaming Act 1968.

Is the Clermont Club open?

No. Its own site says it is temporarily closed; it shut in August 2022. The licence is still on the register.
