The building
The Casinò di Sanremo opened on 14 January 1905, designed by the French architect Eugène Ferret in the Liberty style that was then sweeping Italy. It sits on Corso degli Inglesi, above the town, and it is the reason most visitors come.
From its first edition in 1951 until 1976 the building was the home of the Sanremo Music Festival, the competition that gave rise to Eurovision and remains the most watched cultural event in Italy. The festival moved to the Teatro Ariston, but the association is why the casino is a landmark rather than simply a gaming floor.
The games
French roulette is the headline, and it matters: the French wheel carries a single zero and, where la partage applies, an even-money bet costs roughly half what a standard European wheel does. It is the cheapest roulette available anywhere.
The floor also runs American games and Texas Hold'em, alongside over 479 slot machines with more than 200 newer titles and 54 multigames, with stakes from one cent to €2.

Visiting
Sanremo sits on the Riviera dei Fiori, close to the French border, and is an easy train journey from Nice, Monaco or Genoa. Many visitors combine it with Monte Carlo, which is under an hour away and a completely different proposition: grander, stricter and considerably more expensive.
Italian casinos require photo identification and the legal age is 18. Dress is smart in the gaming rooms, and the slot area is more relaxed.
The town is at its busiest in February during the music festival and in high summer. Spring and early autumn are the better time for both the weather and the prices.
