The Strip's biggest landlord
MGM Resorts operates ten properties on the Las Vegas Strip, more than any other company, including MGM Grand, Bellagio, Aria, Mandalay Bay, Luxor, New York-New York, Excalibur and Park MGM.
That concentration matters to a visitor in a way it usually is not explained: rules, comp structures and loyalty programmes are set at group level, so moving between MGM properties changes the room but not the terms.
Going private
People Inc., the company formerly known as IAC and already MGM's largest shareholder with a 26.1% stake, has proposed acquiring the company at $48.30 a share, valuing it at roughly $18 billion.
The Nevada Gaming Commission unanimously approved licences and amended orders of registration in July 2026, which is a step rather than a conclusion: the deal still needs shareholder approval and clearance from gaming regulators in Nevada and many other jurisdictions.
The context is that Las Vegas tourism has softened, and both of the Strip's largest operators became takeover targets in the same year. Our Caesars page covers the other half of that story.
Japan
MGM is building Japan's first casino. MGM Osaka is under construction on Yumeshima, a reclaimed island in Osaka Bay, owned roughly 40% each by MGM and the Japanese firm Orix. Construction began in April 2025 and the target opening is 2030.
Our Japan gambling laws page covers why no casino operates in the country today and why Tokyo is not on the list.

What the operator does not decide
Branding varies between groups; the mathematics does not. A pass line bet costs 1.41% at every casino in the world, and the things that genuinely change what you pay are printed on the felt: our 6:5 blackjack and European against American wheels pages cover the two worth checking first.
Where the operator does matter is comps, since loyalty programmes are set at group level and play recorded at one property produces offers across the whole estate.

Ownership, property counts and transactions on this page were checked against company statements, filings and established gaming trade press in August 2026. Where a deal is proposed rather than completed the page says so, because several of these are mid-transaction and may not close. Corporate structures change; the official links above are the authority.
